Backlog: Year in … sketches

What a wild year. From the Inauguration through the unveiling of Virginia’s newest statue, countless hearings and handshakes, office visits and official business, cookie parties and constituent coffees – I’ve seen more history happen through my lens than I ever thought was possible. I’ve shared the videos I’ve made (and have been published) here already, but in this year-end reflection, I really wanted to show some images. But! Rules abound, and I can’t publish my photos on my own. So while I was looking through the 5,500+ images I made this year, I had an *idea*. What if I sketched some images as original artwork?

Thus, I present a handful of memorable moments (and some representational scenes of hundreds of images I’ve taken) in cartoon sketch. I am not a sketch artist, so the proportions are likely wrong, faces are 100% inaccurate, but the general scene is as close as I could muster.

Here’s to surviving the wild ride this year. Hoping 2026 brings interesting images and stories, but maybe a little less chaos.
